Temple Adath Sharon
(in English, "Congregation of Sharon")
is a Conservative congregation that has been a house of worship, learning
and community since the early 1900s.
Temple
Adath Sharon (TAS) is the oldest synagogue in Sharon. It began as a seasonal
minyan formed by the Jewish community summering by Lake Massapoag.
Samuel J. Bernstein, father of the famed composer Leonard Bernstein, was a
founding member of TAS. The Bernsteins used to walk to Adath Sharon from their nearby summer
home. By the 1950s, Adath Sharon grew into a year-'round institution.
Originally following Orthodox traditions, the sysnagogue affiliated with the
Conservative Movement in 1979, and is currently a member of United Synagoge of Conservative Judaism, the umbrella organization for Conservative synagogues in North America. Temple Adath Sharon recognizes the
right and the responsibility of all Jewish adults to participate fully in all
aspects of synagogue life.
We are an intimate, heimish congregation who treasures our informal atmosphere.
Children of any age are always welcome in the sanctuary.
Since we are
one of the smaller synagogues in Sharon, new members find that they quickly feel at home and comfortable making active contributions
to the character and content of our services, Hebrew school, and events. Our families represent a diversity of backgrounds
and heritage, and we all share a dedication to meaningful Jewish life and education.
